There are certain things which must already be in place in a person’s life in order for them to not only Survive, but to continue to Thrive if they are hit with a difficult season of dark nights, rough times, brutal storms, and severe trouble. If a person has these things in place, they will not only be able to Survive the season of trauma, loss, and severe impact, but will have the possibility of Thriving during and beyond that difficult season.
These are some of the things that must be in place:
- A strong foundation in the promises and wisdom of God’s Word. - A rich personal and private fellowship with God. - A good working relationship with the the Helper, the Holy Spirit. - A band of brothers — friends and/or family that are with you. - A strong inner resolve to prevail. - An ability to govern emotions. - An ability to see one’s self and one’s situation objectively.
If these things [and these kind of things] are not part of a person’s life when calamity hits, there is little chance that they can Thrive in that time of trouble. They may Survive the trouble, but they will not Thrive. Like a person thrown from a ship during a severe storm with no life jacket, no water, no food, no provision at all, the person who is thrown into a severe storm of life without important things in place has very reduced chances of Surviving and little chance of Thriving.
Peter exhorted believers, “giving all diligence, ADD to your faith!” And he foretold that, “If these things are in you and abound, you will not be barren or fruitless...and if these things are in you, you will never fall!”
Make every effort to put some of the Essentials I listed above In Place in your life BEFORE tragedy arises; before storms assail; before you are thrown out of the boat into the roiling waters of unfortunate realities!
IF you DO this, you will not only Survive, but you may be able to Thrive right in the midst of your trouble!
