Guy Duininck: Impulse Control in the Church - My Opinion
It seems to me (Indeed, I do have some of my own opinions) that far too many Christians, including ministers, are simply Unable to Restrain themselves from offering a SPIRITUAL EXPLANATION for every Event that happens on planet earth.
Some say, "What is happening now is God judging the church." Some say, "What is happening now is the devil's work to destroy God's plan." Some say, "What is happening now is that God is unfolding His end time plan." Some say, "Strife and hatred opened the door to this current situation." Some say, "This situation is God testing His people." Some say, "God caused this situation to humble His people so that they repent and change."
In one of His teachings, Jesus spoke some very interesting words. Luke records this:
"There were present at that season some that told him (Jesus) of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
I tell you, Nay...
Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
I tell you, Nay..."
What was Jesus saying ? He was saying that sometimes things happen and it has nothing to do with the spiritual condition of the people it happened to. In other words, there is really not spiritual significance. Sometimes things just happen!
Of Course, God is always at work in the lives of believers and Of Course God is often at work on the earth. And of Course the devil is always at work and human beings, as well often operate with specific intentions - good or evil.
HOWEVER
Not EVERYTHING that happens on the earth is caused by God or caused by the devil and Intended by one of them for some Good or for some Evil. Some things JUST HAPPEN on the earth because Earth is the Earth and People are People. Don't follow the IMPULSE to Try to Assign a Spiritual Meaning to Everything that happens on the earth.
If God has something to say to you, He will speak to you PRIMARILY by His Word and by His Indwelling Spirit. LEARN to Listen to the Word and LEARN Listen to the Holy Spirit and STOP trying to Spiritually Interpret Every Happening on the Planet.
